About Jharkhand Gramin Vikas Trust

Over two decades of working at the grassroots to empower the most marginalized communities in Jharkhand.

Our Story

Founded in 2001 with a Clear Purpose

Jharkhand Gramin Vikas Trust (JGVT) was established in 2001 by a dedicated group of social workers and intellectuals who recognized a critical need: the poor and marginalized communities of Jharkhand required not just charity, but structured, need-based, and meaningful development programs.

From its earliest days, JGVT understood that merely imparting literacy would not be sufficient for true societal progress. The organization's founders observed that in the poverty-stricken and backward districts of Jharkhand, women and girls were mostly confined to household activities and played a very limited role in livelihood decisions.

This observation shaped everything JGVT does โ€” from its programs to its partnerships to its advocacy. The trust operates under the belief that development must be a liberating force, one that enables individuals to become agents of their own change.

Our Purpose

Mission, Vision & Values

๐ŸŽฏ

Our Mission

To educate, organize, advocate, and empower the underprivileged โ€” fostering development as a liberating force. We strive for gender equity, social justice, self-empowerment, and the realization of entitlements for all.

๐ŸŒ…

Our Vision

A society where every person โ€” regardless of gender, caste, or economic status โ€” has the opportunity to thrive with dignity, equality, and full exercise of their fundamental rights.

๐Ÿ’ก

Our Approach

Through grassroots efforts, community organizing, rights-based advocacy, and skills development โ€” we enable marginalized communities to identify their own needs and lead their own development.

The Challenge We Face

The total world population comprises 50% women. Yet in most Indian states, women are not treated as equal to men in most areas of life. This deep-rooted gender discrimination adversely affects the morale of women and girls across communities.

Domestic violence is one of the most pervasive human rights violations โ€” denying women equality, security, dignity, and self-worth. In Jharkhand, domestic violence is the most commonly prevalent form of gender-based violence.

JGVT works at the community level to change social norms, provide support to survivors, and build a culture of respect and equality.

Our Partnership

Supported by CREA

JGVT is proud to be supported by CREA โ€” a feminist human rights organization based in New Delhi.

CREA is one of the few international women's rights organizations that works simultaneously at the grassroots, national, regional, and international levels. This partnership strengthens JGVT's ability to connect local realities with global frameworks for human rights and gender justice.

Together, we build evidence-based programs and advocate for policy changes that protect and promote the rights of women and girls in Jharkhand and beyond.
