JGVT Saves a 15-Year-Old Girl from Child Marriage in Dhanbad
On July 14, 2023, information reached JGVT that a 15-year-old girl was being prepared for marriage at the Gadgadiya Shiv Temple, Nirsa, with a young man from outside the area. JGVT's field worker immediately acted — verifying the girl's age through school records, which confirmed she was indeed only 15 years old.
The information was immediately reported to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Dhanbad. Acting on the CWC's communication, the Block Development Officer of Baghmar (also the Child Marriage Prohibition Officer) issued orders and the Ramkanali Police Station officers reached the spot, successfully stopping the child marriage.
Subsequently, under the leadership of Panchayat Mukhiya Shri Niranjan Gop of Jamu aTand, the girl's father signed a legal bond committing not to arrange her marriage until she turns 18, and to ensure she completes her education until then.
One intervention. One girl's future protected. This is JGVT at work.
