Who We Are

A Nonprofit Built on Trust and Grassroots Action

Jharkhand Gramin Vikas Trust (JGVT) was promoted in 2001 by a group of dedicated social workers and intellectuals with a clear aim: to uplift poor and marginalized communities in both urban and rural Jharkhand.

JGVT is registered under the Indian Trust Act and governed by a 7-member executive committee. We are also recognized under the FCR Act, ensuring full legal compliance and transparency in all our operations.

We are proud to be supported by CREA โ€” a feminist human rights organization based in New Delhi โ€” one of the few international women's rights organizations working at grassroots, national, regional, and international levels.

JGVT Saved a 15-Year-Old from Child Marriage

๐Ÿ“ Jamu aTand, Baghmar Block, Dhanbad โ€” July 14, 2023

When JGVT's field worker learned that a 15-year-old girl was about to be married at the Gadgadiya Shiv Temple, the team immediately swung into action. They confirmed the girl's age through her school records, then notified the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Dhanbad.

On the orders of the Block Development Officer (Baghmar), the local police arrived and stopped the marriage. The girl's family signed a bond committing not to marry her until she turns 18 โ€” and to ensure she completes her education.

One intervention. One future saved. This is what JGVT's grassroots presence makes possible every day.
